SVQs provide your team members with a national qualification, completed in the workplace, which certificates their skills and abilities.
These are the National Standards of competence set by the Sector Skills Councils. Every industry has its own awarding bodies (like exam boards). They provide motivation for employees, and increase skills and awareness.
There’s a qualification for everyone, from junior employees to managers. From Level 5 to Level 8
At the workplace. We come to you. Visits are at times to suit your business and the candidate, approximately one hour long, on a weekly or fortnightly basis.
There is an SVQ to cover almost every job role. Previous candidates have included chefs, receptionists, bar staff, oil rig project managers, care home managers and staff, retail assistants and managers, hotel managers, public service employees, nursery assistants and forecourt attendants.
It is dependent on many factors. Normally between 4 – 8 months.
Skills Development Scotland provide funding for 16 – 24 year olds under the Modern Apprenticeship Scheme. Please ask for details.
Some government funding is available under the Modern Apprenticeship Scheme.
As most of you will be aware the new Licensing (Scotland) Act, has required many changes for all types of licensed premises. One of these is the requirement by law, that every manager or supervisory staff member who authorises the sale or service of alcohol is required to hold their own Personal Licence.
A second requirement is that all staff who sell or serve alcohol have to receive relevant training in accordance with the requirements of the new Act.
Since 2013, the Refresher Certificate has been introduced. This is a mandatory course for anyone whose original certificate is 5 years old…check yours now!! You must refresh your certificate before yours reaches 5 years old.
The Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders is a one day course with a short test at the end of the day. This can also be delivered over two short sessions if more suitable.
The Refresher runs for 3 hours, typically 10am till 1pm.
The Scottish Certificate for the Safe Sale or Service of Alcohol is a two hour course for staff members. Costs are as follows:
Do you serve food to the public as part of your job?
If so, you need a food hygiene certificate to prove you have been trained in this. We also deliver REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene and Food Safety Courses, at Level 2.
This course is for all people who work in the hospitality or catering industry, and is a legal requirement for staff who handle food – chefs, waiting staff etc.
These are typically for staff in hotels, restaurants, bars, cafes and coffee shops, but everyone who works with food needs to have one.
On Track Training has been a REHIS approved centre for more than 10 years, and is a leading provider in the Highlands. There are four courses:

Are you interested in Learning and Development SVQ units?
We provide fully accredited SVQ Learning and Development qualifications for those interested in becoming assessors and verifiers. This can be a great way to improve you and your staff’s learning and development and gives you a qualification in how to train staff.
Learning and Development courses are done on a one-to-one basis with coursework to be done as you train someone. The course can take as long as you wish, it really depend on how much work you put in. This will then allow you to train your staff in SVQs using materials from a training provider like On Track Training.
We have many chefs and managers who want these qualifications as they are able to work with their staff and are able to continuously assess in the workplace, and tailor their staff training to their own specification and needs.
This is a fantastic way to develop your career, business and staff morale.
For more information on how this works, either contact us here or if you’d prefer on our Facebook page. Our SVQs include:
SVQ Level 3 in Learning and Development (can include assessors unit)
SVQ Level 4 in Learning and Development (this can include the verifiers unit if they have done the assessors unit previously, or the assessors unit can also be included)

Hello! I’m the chief cook and bottle washer at On Track Training. I started the business in March 2003, and I’m still here….. I worked in the hospitality industry for over 25 years, and am a passionate believer in staff development to help a business grow and diversify. My fabulous staff are brimming with expertise and enthusiasm and can’t wait to meet you!
I am the Training and Quality manager for On Track, and have been working for the company in a variety of roles for 10 years. I have a passion for training, and much of my time is spent delivering Personal Licence and Food Hygiene courses in and around Inverness, as well as across Scotland, from Bute to Shetland.
Failing to make it as a professional footballer, I have enjoyed a career within Sales and Marketing. I have worked on various projects but for the past four years have had the joy of working with On Track and equally the fast paced Hospitality Sector. I can boil eggs and make toast giving me an insight into the trials and tribulations of the trade. The greatest part of my job is travelling all over Scotland meeting with many different businesses.
